Turks and Caicos Fountain
Back in June of 2005, I got an email from Maeve in Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos Islands. She said she had found my Website and wanted more information. She referred me to a landscaper on the island, Murray. They asked for designs that could incorporate elements from their coat of arms. They said they liked the photos of Richie M.'s fountain. I found the coat of arms on line and began to think of ways to bring all the elements together. Emails went back and forth. I asked my daughter, Brandy, to work up a sketch. She had worked up several 3D sketches for me before, by hand. This time she decided to do the sketch digitally. Click to enlarge photos.
In December, I got a call telling me that the fountain was a go. I was quite surprised. It turns out they were serious. With a new Carnival cruise terminal coming to the south tip of the island, the government had agreed to develop and beautify certain sites on the island. So the money was in the budget for the fountain. For the consultation, they agreed to pay my way, flight and accommodation included. |

Following are the photos of the fountain. The fountain was built in my studio in Tampa then shipped by container. Murray decided that it was best to be keep the fountain simple and to provide flat areas and optional planters, so the elements of the coat of arms could be incorporated on a temporary basis as desired. The pool was built onsite with the help of Murray, Jackson, and DeLaMar.
Maeve is the bathing beauty. She came from the beach immediately after the fountain was first filled and running and surprised us all by just jumping in. The final photo shows from left to right, Jackson, DeLaMar, myself, and Murray. Thanks to them and all the government officials, especially Bryan from the Tourism Department.
